KINDER-BALL

softball-fielding

The Kinder-Ball program is for girls in kindergarten and involves fun 60-minute sessions at the MRC (Madison Recreation Complex), on Saturday mornings, 9-10am, April through June.

During these clinics, the girls are introduced to the basics of softball (throwing, hitting, catching, running) in a positive environment, with no division into formal team assignments.  We use a combination of board members and experienced coaches alongside the older girls from our high school and recreational programs to teach skills the right way while hopefully instilling a love for the game of softball.  This is also an excellent way to get involved as a coach as you will be working alongside our experienced coaches during the one-hour that you'd likely be watching your daughter anyway.  To be eligible, players must be enrolled in Kindergarten during this fall/spring. If you have any specific questions, contact the Kinder Division Manager, Dawn Neville, at dawn_neville@yahoo.com

ROOKIE DIVISION: Grades 1 and 2

Expect to play 2 games a week at the MRC. Either Mon or Tues evening [5:30-7ish] and Saturday mornings [either 10-11:30 or 11:30-1].

Softball team: Coach (40s) with girls (7-10 years) in dugout.

GRADE 3/4.

Our grade 3/4 division introduces players to pitching, leading, sliding and stealing. Coaches work hard to help players master all fundamental softball skills. There are no walks in this division. Coaches take over from the pitcher after ball 4 and batters must either put the ball in play or strike out. Stealing of third base and the concept of leaving on the pitch is introduced. Innings are capped at five runs.

GRADE 5/6.

Our grade 5/6 division gives players the opportunity for competition with neighboring communities. There is no more coach pitch. Coaches continue to help players master all fundamental softball skills as well as the introduction of more advanced game strategies. The season finishes with seeded playoffs across all towns leading to a grand champion.

Our grade 7/8 division continues the competition with neighboring communities. Rules are as close as possible to high school softball to prepare players to continue with the game when they reach high school. Stealing of all bases as well as the dropped third strike is now a part of the game. The season finishes with seeded playoffs across all towns leading to a grand champion.
